Now on the first page it says 1280x1024@75hz, but on the "more" page it says 1280x1024@85hz. Which one should I believe?

AOC is a company
POS = Piece Of Shit

I'm glad you mentioned shadow mask though I wasn't really thinking about it for some reason.

When the electron gun fires electrons off at the screen, there needs to be a device to narrow the beams and point them to the right place on the screen. There are two basic techniques for doing this, shadow mask or aperture grill.

Shadow mask is a sheet of metal basically, which directs the beams. The Samsung uses shadow mask.

Aperture grill uses thin metal strips to direct the beams. Some say the aperture grills have a sharper, brighter image, since the grill can direct a small amount of light more than the shadow mask. But one disadvantage to aperture grill is the metal strips need stabilizers -- thin wires basically, running across the back of the screen. You can actually see the wires behind your screen; obviously they are very faint but it annoys some people to no end (I'd probably be one of those people). You probably won't notice it unless you are displaying a lot of bright colors, but some people just go nuts over them. The FE771SB uses aperture grill.

The refresh rate on newegg.com is wrong. It IS 85Hz, as can be confirmed by the manufacturer website.

You probably won't notice the wires on an aperture grill monitor unless you really look for them. But once you do notice them they'll pop out at you every time you look at it and probably annoy the piss out of you.

is 80hz vs 85hz going to make a big difference in the long run? If not I was looking at the optiquest q95B, which is still $179, at least it is this morning.

Well I went ahead and bought the NEC AS90-BK. I figure If I'm going to spend almost that much anyway, Might as well spend an extra ten bucks and get something I'll be psyched about. After all I plan to spend a long time staring at the thing.

Shit man, yeah hardware likes to change prices all the time. Glad you went with the nicer unit though - I think you'll find it was worth it. It's better than realizing in 6 months that a 17" just isn't enough. The difference between a 17 and 19 is more than two inches I tell ya :mrhappy:
