man oh man.. im really tearing myself up about this.. part of me says:
"mantra... you were gonna pay 350 bucks out of your pocket anyway.. just go ahead and use the ebay money and get the huge, mad expensive, super video card."
the other part says:
"dude.. wtf are you thinking.. you could build a whole computer with 500 bucks. if amy finds out she will kick your ass."
sigh.. i think ill just go with the 9700 pro and play it safe..

Yeah, just get the 9700. Even if you wait around for the 5900 it's going to cost a TON. I would say unless you are really planning on spending that much in the first place, don't force yourself to do it. The 9700 will keep you rockin for a while.
And don't want to piss Amy off either, especially this close to the wedding (assuming of course Amy is your fiancee, and not some secret of yours )

i ordered the ati.. im sure ill be happy with it.
lol.. now you understand part of my delimma tekime.. its harder than hell to get away with ordering any parts for my computer.. specially this close to the wedding.. she thinks i should be saving every single dollar i make. (i probably should) now i have to sell my other shit on ebay to make a few dollars, order the part with the ebay money, have my roomate stash the part in the closet when the fedex guy comes (he works nights), then either install the part when she is sleeping at night or do it before she comes over..
god... i feel like being a geek is illegal or something.. lol usually i tell her afterwards anyway. i usually get a long speech or just the look of death. anyway.. did i mention how much i love her?

ROFL!! :biglaugh:
I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh... it's like black market geekiness or something though! You've got a pretty good process worked out though, hehe..
Hopefully she's only adament about saving because of the wedding... then again after the wedding it'll probably be the house.. then kids college or whatever....
I guess you should just make it clear that a) You are a geek b) You need new hardware or you will go into severe withdrawal and perhaps require hospitilization without it and c) Hospital bills will far outweigh the cost of a new video card, CPU or mobo now and then
Hehe, I'm sure it's worth it though. I'm sure she will come to understand the need to upgrade, and maybe you'll learn to space them out more and be more budget minded or something. Either way you can't really put a price on love, and until she starts throwing out parts or burning your PC, I'm sure it's damn worth those late-nite "upgrades" :mrhappy:

lol.. yeah, its one of those things that she kind of thinks is funny, but at the same time she is totally goal orientated. i think i make a bigger deal out of it than it really is. i think part of me enjoys the fun of getting away with ordering an expensive part without facing the wrath of amy.
like i said i eventually tell her later, its just that if i tell her before i order it i hear about it until it shows up and then the whole time im installing it. we balance each other out pretty well tho.. without her i would prolly have like 20 computers here and no money in the bank at all..

And 10 years later I reply.... ops:
It sounds like you guys go well I don't believe couples should be the same personally. Well, it depends ont he individual I guess, but I think the ones who stay together are the ones who complement each other not mirror each other. And it's always good when someone else's good habits can help with your bad ones :mrhappy:
