Default 5950u Drivers on KV8 MAX3

Not sure if this goes here or in software...

Got my 64-bit system up and running. However, downloading the most recent nVIDIA drivers for XP and installing them yields garbledy-gook once XP loads up. Rebooting gives me garbledy-gook text at the BIOS screen. I have to basically do a hard reboot and then restart in safe mode and remove the drivers.

Anybody know of any issues with this mobo and these drivers? I also tried the 64-bit drivers, but I somehow suspect they're for 64-bit Windows, not just a 64-bit system, and I just have ye olde 32-bit XP Pro installed. I get some errors about invalid DLLs for nvcpl.dll and nvmctray.dll with it, at any rate.

Also, due to current lack of broadband it's a fresh install right off the CD with no updates. I suspect I might need to get SP1, etc. I also tried the last official release of the Detonator series of drivers, but still the garble.

Any hints appreciated!

Damn. Getting garbled output in Windows is one thing, but in BIOS and during boot? Ugh. Sounds like the drivers are incorrectly setting something on the card, or leaving some crap behind. I would probably go for SP1 and other Windows updates ASAP, if at all possible. Also make sure you have the most recent platform drivers installed for your mobo.

Problems MIGHT be from corrupt or missing driver elements too, but then again it can be a big pain in the ass to manually remove all driver files. I'd remove the Detonators, install a standard VGA driver, and then do a fresh driver install, making sure that you overwrite every existing file it's installing.

Also it sounds dumb, but there is always the chance your monitor can't support the refresh rate/resolution settings the card is choosing. It might be incorrectly choosing some extremely high refresh rate. Just a guess.

SP1 seems to have fixed me right up! Now I just have to figure out why UT2004 still has intermittent video/audio hitches! ;-)
