That is one SWEET ass machine. I wish I had an extra 3k or so lying around. Actually I was playing around on the Apple store and a fully pimped Mac Pro came out to like fucking $20k!!! It would be totally awesome though. If I ever win Powerball it's mine.

For now, luckily there's a beautiful little side effect to the whole Apple on Intel thing: the Hackintosh. There's no way it'll be as elegant as the real thing, but if I've played my cards right on my latest purchase I should be able to run Leopard on my PC with all the hardware fully supported. I should be getting my parts before the weekend and I'll post the details once I've got it up and running.

My hackintosh is working btw.

Pretty much everything works perfectly (sound, video, network, usb, firewire, bluetooth, dvd burner. The only thing I'm having an issue with is sleep... If I tell it to sleep, it just immediately kills the power altogether. For now I've just disabled sleep. Oh yeah and Boot Camp doesn't work, but I don't need it (I can install Windows, drivers, and a boot manager myself).

Leopard is fucking sweet. And man, it runs awesome on this computer. I've always had to run OS X on old Macs that someone else decided they didn't want anymore. Everything just rips on this machine. So fucking smooth.

VMWare Fusion is pure genius and works beautifully. It recognized my already installed Windows partition as a "Boot Camp Partition" even though I'm not using Boot Camp. I had to tweak the config file to get it to work with 64bit XP (apparently Apple doesn't support 64bit XP in Boot Camp for whatever reason, so VMWare didn't bother either). After those tweaks it worked perfectly though. Turn Unity on and all your Windows apps are now running right there with your Mac stuff. You can even drag files from Finder windows into Explorer windows and it just goes right ahead and copies the shit like it's no big deal.

Pretty fucking awesome. I'll do a full writeup on it later. For now I'm gonna go try play some games on this beast.

Awesome!

I'll be playing with VMWare when I get back (on vacation in Panama City right now)

I remember seeing alot of people having the Sleep issue, I believe there is a patch for it. What distro are you using?

yea, i've used boot camp on my 24" iMac, and it worked fine... I didn't do a lot of testing though... I always wondered how the other programs worked... let me know about Fusion when you have a moment.

I'm using Leo4allv2 right now. Leo4allv3 is out now and it includes a modified kernel by Netkas which might fix the sleep issue. I might try it out tonight.

Update: I was able to fix the sleep issue by changing the ACPI setting in the BIOS from S3 to S1. So now *everything* works perfectly!!

Just like speed, stability? I don't do any gaming or graphic stuff on the PC side, so I'm too worried about the speed. I work a lot on large excel docs (with multiple copies of it open) and large Word Docs mainly.
