Default Lian Li PC-6070B + KV8 MAX3

Well, I've got my new 64-bit system all wired up, but during the initialization it's hanging on code 7F, which is:

Switch back to text mode if full screen logo is supported
- If errors occur, report errors & wait for keys
- If no errors occur or F1 key is pressed to continue: Clear EPA or customization logo

Basically, I'm getting no video at all. I'm using a Radeon 9600 SE 128MB. However, one thing that disturbs me a bit is the square holes Lian Li puts on the MB tray.

The little brackets that you push in from the back don't really seem to lock in any sturdy kind of way, and they don't hold the MB up that high after everything's screwed in. In fact, I had to hoist the MB a little bit so that the audio jacks, etc. would fit into the back plate (the one provided with the MB) for the peripherals. This makes that end of the MB raised possibly twice as high as the other side.

The problem with this is that slipping in the Radeon (or anything really) means it's now sloped a bit, to the point that the plate to screw into to the back of the case will not align with the hole to screw it in with. If the MB tray is out I can push the frame towards it a bit and screw it in just fine. But once I thumbscrew the tray back to the case, the screws closest to the MB of course encounter some resistance, since the tray is then slightly less than 90 degrees. Because of that I don't screw them in too snug. I've also tried not screwing it in at all, but the init code still hangs on 7F after a series of two quick beeps and then after a few seconds a low one. Like "Ehhhn. Wrong answer." Maybe the card pins aren't fitting in snugly enough toward the back end? They don't seem to be out of the AGP slot really. Maybe a hair if anything, hard to tell. But I think that slope pretty much gaurantees it's not seated as deeply as the other end, if only slightly.

Anybody ever have this kind of problem with a Lian Li case before? Or any case, for that matter.

I'm curious as to how potentially bad it is for the MB to be so low and close to the tray. At least it seems like it's pretty low. Maybe I'm just not hip to using the push-through brackets correctly?

Any ideas on the video problem would be appreciated too! I have power and everything hooked up -- it's definitely hanging at the same point each time, and giving me no video. Maybe I should try hooking up a different card, like my FX 5950u, and see how that tickles its fancy. The Radeon installation instructions are semi-unnerving, warning of doom if appropriate non-Intel ATI drivers are not first installed in Windows before installing the card itself (black screen or other badness when Windows starts up.) However, I'm starting from scratch here, so I was thinking it should be okay if I'm going to be installing Windows on a new drive, and will be able to provide the needed drivers during the course of the installation.

At any rate, I'll keep tinkering in the meanwhile I suppose!

That's fucked up. I have a PC60 which has the same type of square bracket thingies. I don't have any problem with mine at all. They snapped right in, sturdy as hell, and the motherboard lines up perfectly. Maybe you have them in the wrong way? Maybe take out the motherboard and try rotating those things 90 degrees? I can't remember which direction they're supposed to go in... Maybe your case is defective I dunno. I know mine has the same thingies and they are working fine for me.

Yeah, I tried'em just about every which way I could think of but they didn't seem to be any sturdier. I can't imagine the holes are the wrong size... maybe I have wimpy brackets. Or maybe I'm not jamming them in far enough. I should probably surf around and see if I can find any proper examples!

Agh, talk about newb. I had tried putting them in with my hands before, just jamming directly. I could only get them about half as far as they're SUPPOSED to go, blah. Pinching them in and inserting is 100% better! They definitely all snapped into place. No sloping now or anything. Now I just hope I haven't shorted the board from powering it up that close to the tray the other day. ;_;

Glad to hear you got it figured out. Good luck with the rest of your stuff there.
